The world's leading retinal specialists use 23 Gauge Vitrectomy in greater than 80% of total surgeries versus 20 Gauge or 25 Gauge.
Dr. Zoran Tomic, Uppsala, Sweden
'I am using 23G in about 95% of my cases, excluding macular translocation, severe trauma and severe endophthalmitis. The main reason is the size of 23G instruments feels “just right”. If compared to 25G only, the 23G instruments are stiffer and larger, which make them suitable for more advanced cases, the 23G illumination is better and I don’t see difficulties with any procedure using 23G including silicone oil injection/removal.'
